Team Selection Process for the 2013 F3K World Championships

The team selection process for the 2013 F3K World Championships will be carried out largely in terms of the “Qualification of National RC Glider Teams - process” posted on the 28 March 2011 at http://mgasa.blogspot.com/search/label/National%20Team

The selection is open to all SAMAA members in good standing and who have at least an MGA Solo or higher Thermal rating. Please note that only SA citizens may be selected as the members of any SA National team.

There will be 4 selection events held in 2012 preceding the World Championships, the first three events are scheduled as Qualifiers events and the last competition will be the Team Trial event. There are no compulsory events but at least one qualifier must have been flown to be eligible for entry into the team trials event.

The team selection competitions will typically be held on a Sunday afternoon, one day of the following weekend being used as a back-up if flying cannot be completed on the day.

The dates are as follows

Qualifier 1: 13 May 2012

Qualifier 2: 8 July 2012

Qualifier 3: (Nationals) 22 - 24 September 2012

Team Trials: 11 November 2012

The venues for these events will be announced closer to the time once confirmation of the availability of the respective fields has been confirmed

The scores from each pilot’s best 2 of the 3 qualifier events will be added and used for ranking purposes. The top ten ranked & available pilots will be eligible for participation in the Team Trials event. The average of the pilot’s best two scores from the qualifiers and the team trials score will be added to determine the pilot’s final score and hence team ranking.

The top 3 ranked pilots will automatically qualify for the team, the 4th ranked pilot as 1st non-travelling reserve, etc. The pilots will nominate their Team Manager & the MGA will approve the nomination based on the existing National RC Soaring Team Selection process.

Prior to ratification by the MGA, each team member will be required to agree the SAMAA Team Selection - Individual Undertaking (SAMAA MOP PO.8).

Note: During the qualification events, the decision of the CD is final.
