2019 Thermal League 1 : Pilots 0 vs Mud 1

Hidden cameras captured a brave attempt by Mike Vos to
reach the field - speed is your friend. (PS - not a true story).

Sunday 17 February was our first scheduled thermal league.

Gordon had plans to run a social competition with pilots flying 5 flights with a target of 40 minutes in total with 5 spot landings.

All types of glider were permitted, with the  proviso that pilots flew the competition with the same aircraft, unless that model was damaged.

The competition was planned to be held at the Silverton Gliding Club, in Pretoria.

We week before the competition, the area had enjoyed strong rainfall. The rain stopped on the Saturday before the event, but the damage was done.

The roads to the flying field were impassable.

The final result - Pilots 0 vs Mud 1.

If Alan Smith had a longer beard, and had a straw hat,
and was caught in the mud spray behind a stuck vehicle,
he may have ended up looking like this. But he wasn't even there.
This is a random photo of a muddy man to see if anyone ever reads this website. ;)
